I stayed on this boat in the mid 70's while in Miami. Thought I caught a glimpse of her in Ft. Lauderdale, west of I-95. Anyone know her whereabouts, condition? Was told she was owned by Birchminster Industries....can find nothing on my own. Was told it was blt. 1925, about 75ft. in length. Thanks

Hello Mr. Ward. Thank you for your efforts but no, this is not the boat I remember. Remembering back, i was also told she was donated to the Navy and classified as a sub chaser. The Navy had removed all the square ports and replaced with round. she had two engines 671's and cruised at about 7 knots. The best description was a "sea going china closet", pilot house forward, with roof extending to the stern, having a small stack ahead of midship. I was last aboard when berthed at Maule Lake Marina, 172nd. and Biscayne Blvd. Miami. Thanks again to anyone who may provide informaiton. She was a classic.

I just viewed a picture of the Pilgrim II on the Mathis/Trumpy Homepage and this looks identical to the boat I am trying to reference. Only I remember being told the "Beseech" was blt in 1925. Thanks for any info.

I helped deliver a 96' Mathis Trumpy "Beseech" from Ft.Lauderdale to Staten Island in July 1983. Her documentation # was 225227, powered by two old 671's that burned 3qts. ea/ per day. She was in sad shape, partially stripped out below, no working heads, and we were told the new owner bought her at auction after being involved in a drug run. Once in N.Y., the owner brought piles of 2x4s' and plywood to the dock and told us to start building a "second story", "so he could take more people out" (!!!) We politely explained the issue but he was not happy, and refused to pay us back wages, so we left. After a year or two of exchanging paper work with admiralty guys, the last I heard was that she had caught fire, gone to a yard in Brooklin, and then "disappeared". I often wonder about her myself. For a pair of twenty something, inexperienced mariners, it was a great adventure. The insurer ordered us to stay in the ICW for the trip, but the owner grew impatient and told us to head for open water at Jacksonville, Fl. Like idiots, we did. The first night out a squall line hit us that laid us over about 45 degrees, and she stayed there for about 10 minutes, with no steerage, no lights below, lightning all around - just me, the skipper, and the owner, who was crying and begging us to call for help. Hours later, hoplessly lost (we were fully equiped with a compass and old RDF), we tied up to a day marker off of Thunderbolt, Ga and went to sleep. We woke up to the sound of shrimpers heading out into the sunrise, our boat a shambles of tumbled furniture, tangled curtains, and hanging lines. Their disdainful stares were not lost on us! What I learned: Carefully choose your boat, owner, and captain!

I worked at Maule Lake part-time in 78. I was part of the band the CC Riders. We spent most of the winter in Miami. I knew one of the owners of the marina. I was told the owner was Birchminster Industries also. Never met any of them. Just a check for help taking care of the boat. The head guy on the boat was a student from Radford University in Virginia. He went back to school in the fall and I moved in. I lived on the Beseech for about two or three months. What a fun time it was. Lot of work also. Tons of Teak and Mahogany to varnish and a lot of brass to polish. LOL. I took some photos of her and still have them I think. I always tell the story of living on a yacht in Miami and the fun I had living on her.
