I love Trumpys and have been trying to talk my husband into getting one. We are novices and he is very practical! So, please tell me what you wish you knew when you bought one--cost of maintenance, pros/cons, etc.
Also, we live in Southern California--can Trumpys be taken along the coastline on a calm day? We will primarily use it as a second home, but want to be able to get it from one harbor to the next.
I've seen the Washingtonian on Yacht World and fell in love with it. It seems to have been bought and sold several times in the last four or five years--does anyone know if that's true, or if it just never sold and is still on the market? Any details on this particular vessel would be appreciated.
Sorry for all of the questions--I knew if there was anyone who could help me make a case for a Trumpy, it would be the people of this forum!

Hello again SoCalGal, We have chatted on YachtForums about Washingtonian. The boat has indeed been sold several times in the last few years. She was sold by an interior designer who owned her and spent a fortune on her making her truly beautiful. He was not using the boat and the expenses, including full time crew, were exhausting his resources. The next owners were a couple who continued her care and upgrading very nicely. They decided to "split" and the boat was sold. The current owners purchased her with the thought of becoming semi-retired and running her for charter in Florida. Their plans changed as other business interests increased rather than decreasing, taking most of their available time for boating. Thats why she is now for sale again. She has sold to new owners each time, and has sold for very legitimate reasons. I am a yacht broker and I sold her to the current owners and am offering her for sale once again. Washingtonian is a truly beautiful yacht, but she is a "handful" to take care of. She is, after all an almost 70 year old boat that is made of wood. She requires constant care of paint, varnish and teak decking if she is to be stored out in the weather. Here on the Chesapeake, we have many covered shed slips where nice old boats like Washingtonian can be kept out of the sun. This makes maintenance much easier absent the UV attack. Without professional help, she would be a full time job for an owner to maintain. With professional help I would budget $100K annually + or - to keep her looking and running good. I would be pleased to speak with you further by phone, my contact info is on the YachtWorld listing. Meet me in St Augustine Florida and we can look her over together.

We bought Washingtonian at the end of last year and are restoring her to past glory and expect to get her Certification back. We expect her to splash end of September or early October. She is a beauty and will be spectacular. Would love some info on the sheds. We are at Moores in Beaufort.
